The iconic Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, fondly known and remembered as the “Nightingale of India,” has captivated audiences for generations with her melodious voice.

However, there’s more to her extraordinary life than just music.

On 3rd November, a prestigious event held at the Nehru Centers Auditorium in Worli celebrated the multi-faceted talents of Lata Mangeshkar, unveiling her recently launched book, ‘…And She Clicked.’

This exceptional event, which was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries and an array of renowned personalities, was a magical evening filled with enchanting tales and breathtaking visuals.

The esteemed Purbayan Chatterjee, accompanied by the brilliant musicians Satyajit Talwalkar and Aarya Shreyasi, provided a mesmerizing musical prelude to the evening, setting the stage for the unveiling of Lata Mangeshkar’s lesser-known passion—photography.

A diverse gathering of luminaries from the world of music, literature, and cinema, including Usha Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar, Suresh Wadkar, Rachana Shah, Rhythm Wagholikar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Adinath Mangeshkar, Aashay Wagholikar, Anuja Wagholikar, Shivaji Satam, and Virendra Mahiskar, graced the occasion.

‘…And She Clicked,’ a compilation of photographs taken by Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar over the years, unveils the artist’s profound connection with the world of photography. This book offers a glimpse into nature, architecture, wildlife, and the lives of ordinary Indians, as seen through the lens of the legendary singer.

Mayuresh Pai, the visionary behind this project, expressed his sentiments, “I stand overwhelmed to offer to Lata Didi’s friends and countless admirers this beautiful compilation of photographs, which she clicked down the decades.”

The book’s uniqueness lies in the fact that each photograph was handpicked by Lata Mangeshkar herself, accompanied by evocative captions that tell stories of their own. It also showcases the wide range of cameras she used, from Rolleiflex and Yashica to her mobile phone.

The title of the book, ‘…And She Clicked,’ was suggested by the celebrated writer-lyricist Shri Javed Akhtar, highlighting his special bond with Lata Mangeshkar.

The event was presented by the Aditya Birla Group and Shri. Kumar Mangalam Birla shared a heartfelt note on Lataji, further emphasizing her immense contribution to Indian culture. Co-presented by IRB Infrastructures Developers Limited, this evening was a testimony to Lata Mangeshkar’s indelible mark on Indian society.

The preface of the book is written by none other than our honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji. This preface beautifully reflects the deep bond that Lataji shared with the Prime Minister and adds an extra layer of significance to this remarkable book.
